We are here for the animals . . . To be the voice for the animals who cannot speak for themselves. To provide protection, a safe haven and compassion through leadership for the homeless, abused and neglected animals of our community. To be the advocates for our unwanted/ abandoned pets and promote humane awareness for all animals. PHS is dedicated to nurturing and protecting the animals in our care while they await adoption. We are committed to providing these animals with the patience, confidence, discipline, nutrition, medical treatment and socialization they may require until they can be adopted into responsible homes. PHS is a No Kill Shelter – meaning, we do not euthanize for space limitations. We provide euthanasia for terminally ill and seriously injured animals to end their suffering when reasonable courses of treatment have been exhausted. We consider humane euthanasia in the animal’s best interest – if an animal is behaviorally or mentally tormented to the degree that they will not allow any human contact or interaction and only after every effort has been exhausted to modify the behavior issues of the animal.

The Putnam Humane Society is committed to reducing the population of unwanted pets in our community and to selecting responsible and caring homes for the animals at our shelter. With this goal in mind, all pets at the Putnam Humane Society must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Several area veterinarian contribute their services to perform the spay/neuter procedures at a reduced rate for animals being adopted from The Putnam Humane Society. We are subject to their scheduling availability. A PHS adoption application must be completed and submitted for approval. PHS confirms all information provided on the application prior to approval. All applications are reviewed by the Executive Director in a timely fashion. All potential adopters will be contacted by phone or email regarding the status of their application. The Putnam Humane Society reserves the right to accept multiple applications for one animal. This enables us to choose the best home for the animal based on the applicants. This policy is to ensure that our animals are afforded every opportunity to be adopted by a responsible and loving home. The Putnam Humane Society is committed to the animals we place. In the event of unforeseen circumstances and an adoptee is unable to continue caring for the pet for any reason, we ask that the cat or dog be returned to the Putnam Humane Society. This will enable us to place the animal in another responsible and caring home. Adoption fees will be returned within 30 days of the adoption date. Adoption fees will not be returned after 30 days. The Putnam Humane Society also reserves the right to accept additional reserve applications to establish alternative homes in the event the animal is not picked up by you within 48 hrs. of the scheduled adoption date.
