Meet Red the White Dog — Red for short! This handsome Pyr boy is currently in boarding and hoping to find a foster or forever home! Red grew up on a farm, though farm life never quite suited him. He didn't bond with the cows and started to roam, which made him a bit of an escape artist - so much of one that he was given to another farmer, but that didn't work out either, since he ended up playing too rough with some lambs. He loves people and was good with the grandkids - he liked to follow them around. All of this tells us that Red isn't cut out to be a livestock guardian, and would love a life as a family dog. Red is leash trained and would do well as a leash-walk-only dog, and he already knows "sit" - he's a very smart pup, so more training should come easily to him. His activity level is medium, and because he was an escape artist at his original home, he'll need a secure yard with a 6-foot fence to keep him safely contained. Red gets along well with other dogs but would also be perfectly happy as an only dog. He's good meeting new people of all ages. His favorite things in life are treats and chewing sticks, and he takes treats very gently. What makes Red truly special is that he's a sweet boy who just wants to be loved. He's eager to please and has so much affection to offer. He'd thrive with an active family who has a fenced yard, where he can get the exercise and attention he craves. If you're looking for a devoted companion who's ready to give you his whole heart, Red the White Dog might just be your perfect match.

NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog.
Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
