A GENTLE & SENSITIVE FELLOW: Approx. 5 years old / Approx. 47 lbs. & needs to gain a little weight
Hi there, I’m Atlas! I came to Mostly Mutts when I found myself in need of a new home and family. I’m glad to be here and I am enjoying my time in a wonderful calm and quiet type of foster home while I wait to meet my new family. I don’t recall my past, but every day brings a little more progress in my sweet and gentle personality shining through.
• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and liked them, so if you have a dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over, and I don’t think I’d do well with loud or rambunctious kids as I’m a sensitive soul.
• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a sweet and gentle boy with a submissive nature. I am initially shy and need new people to go slowly, but once I have a chance to decompress and realize I’m safe, I begin to warm up. When I arrived in my foster home, I chose a quiet corner of the living room on a couch as my safe place, and since then, my fear has slowly been giving way to trust. Every day brings a little more confidence, a few more tail wags, and a little more of my loving personality. I’m taking life one day at a time, learning that I’m safe, loved, and surrounded by patient people. My foster family is enjoying watching me blossom, and they believe that with a calm home, gentle reassurance, and a patient family, I’ll become an incredibly loving and loyal companion. I’m a quiet, sensitive sweetheart ready to find my new home. / Energy level: Currently 3-5 though my foster expects it to increase to around 6-7 once I’m completely comfortable.
• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: So far, I know the ‘down’, ‘stay’, ‘come’ and ‘place’ commands and you can teach me even more. Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let’s continue my training together. / My fosters don’t crate me, though I was crated at Mostly Mutts as I could jump or scale a 6 foot open top kennel, so please don’t leave me unattended in the yard until you know that I won’t do that as I don’t want to get lost or hurt. / My potty manners are very good in my foster home! At the shelter, I had accidents, likely because it was stressful for me there.
• LIKES/DISLIKES: I enjoy gentle attention and petting, and if I’m feeling especially comfortable, I’ll happily roll over for a belly rub. Spending time outside in the yard with my people helps me relax, and I really enjoy quietly exploring while keeping a watchful eye on my surroundings. Mealtime is always something I look forward to! I’m not interested in playing with toys just yet, though I do seem to like having them nearby—they make my surroundings feel a little more like home. / I don’t like loud or sudden noises, unexpected movements, or a busy, chaotic home environment. A calm, patient home where I can continue to build my confidence would be ideal for me. And like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.
