Meet Taco!
A spirited four-year-old Labrador Retriever/Shepherd mix currently Spearfish, SD, whose sunny tan coat and joyful personality make every day a little brighter. This handsome boy is affectionate, energetic, endlessly curious, and wonderfully silly, always finding new ways to make the people he loves laugh! Whether he is happily exploring on an off-leash walk, chasing a tossed rock with impressive enthusiasm, searching for chipmunks, or simply staying close to his favorite person, Taco brings warmth, loyalty, and entertainment wherever he goes.
Taco is a well-trained companion who knows sit, stay, here, leave it, shake, and "on your bed," and he even comes running when he hears a whistle. He enjoys having a predictable routine, loves being included in everyday adventures, and thrives when he has plenty of exercise, long walks, and opportunities to stretch his legs. His medium energy level makes him an excellent match for an active family who enjoys spending time outdoors.
This lovable boy has overcome significant separation anxiety through patient training and positive reinforcement, showing how eager he is to learn and grow. He also requires a special diet because of a sensitive digestive system related to parvovirus as a puppy, but with the right nutrition he continues to feel his best. Taco is house-trained, crate-trained, neutered, microchipped, and current on his vaccinations.
Taco needs a new loving home where he can be the only pet. He has a bite history involving other dogs within the home, including conflicts over resources, and he would benefit from experienced pet parents who understand resource guarding and can continue supporting his progress with calm, positive guidance. Outside the home, however, Taco enjoys meeting and playing with other dogs, showing that his challenges are specific to sharing his living space rather than social interactions in general. A calm, structured environment with knowledgeable caregivers will help Taco continue building on the progress he has already made.
He is compatible with older, respectful children who understand his need for personal space, and a quieter home without toddlers will help him feel comfortable and secure. He may bark or growl when surprised by strangers, hats, or unexpected movement in dim lighting, so gentle introductions help him settle with confidence.
