Gerald Frederick is a sweet senior gentleman with a heart full of love and a strong desire to be close to his people. If you’re looking for a loyal companion, Gerald is your guy. He is the definition of a “velcro dog” and will happily follow his humans from room to room, always wanting to be part of whatever you’re doing.
Despite his age, Gerald still has a surprising amount of energy and enjoys exploring, snuggling, and, of course, accepting treats whenever they’re offered. His favorite activities include curling up under a cozy blanket, relaxing in a hammock with his foster mom, and taking frequent naps to recharge. Gerald’s friendly personality shines wherever he goes, and he has a way of winning over everyone he meets, from veterinary staff to new friends.
Gerald gets along well with other dogs, cats, and even busy toddlers, usually choosing to quietly coexist and mind his own business. While he generally ignores other pets, he may offer a gentle warning growl if they invade his personal space.
As a senior boy, Gerald does have some special medical needs. He is in the early stages of heart failure and takes daily medication for both his heart and thyroid. He also needs regular potty breaks throughout the day. Gerald is still learning that the crate isn’t such a scary place, and crate training remains a work in progress. He can be vocal when crated, may have accidents if left too long, and would do best with a family where someone is home much of the time.
Gerald’s ideal home is one filled with love, companionship, soft blankets, and people who appreciate having a devoted shadow by their side. In return, he’ll offer endless affection, loyal companionship, and the sweetest senior-dog snuggles imaginable.
Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.
