Kahu is a stunningly beautiful tortoiseshell girl whose quiet nature hides an incredibly loving spirit. As a devoted mother, she not only cared for her own kittens but also lovingly nursed and cared for other foster babies. Kahu is looking for a patient family willing to let her settle in at her own pace.
New environments can feel overwhelming, and she's still learning that people can always be kind. In her foster home, we've found that she tends to warm up to men a little more quickly than women, though with patience, consistency, and gentle interactions, she builds trusting relationships with everyone. She especially appreciates calm movements and prefers that hands approach her slowly rather than reaching over the top of her head. Once she feels safe, she'll happily come when called and enjoys gentle pets.
While she isn't a fan of being held, she loves simply being near her people. In her foster home, she's become a quiet little shadow, following her favorite humans from room to room just to be nearby. One of her favorite places to "help" is the kitchen, where she'll happily supervise dinner preparations with quiet curiosity.
Kahu coexists peacefully with well-mannered dogs and gets along well with other cats, making her a wonderful addition to a calm, understanding home. Watching her slowly gain confidence, choose to follow you, and seek out gentle affection is an incredibly rewarding experience. She may not be the first cat to climb into your lap, but she'll find her own special way of showing that you've earned her trust, and when she does, it's something truly special.
Named after Kahu, a word associated with guardianship and protection in Māori tradition, Kahu has spent her life caring for others. Now it's her turn to find a family who will offer her the same patience, kindness, and love she's always given so freely.
