Baxter's care needs are:
[YELLOW]Found as stray and fostered by finder. Yellow dot on intake, dog was wary and tense but allowed intake slowly. When at shelter for surgery, dog snapped at staff when they offered him a meatball, but staff was able to pick him up using a towel. In foster, dog is affectionate with foster, has been friendly meeting people who move slowly, while others he seems fearful and retreats. Shows friendly interest in neighbor's dog, tail wagging. Housetrained, sticks very close to finder and vocalizes/pants for 30 minutes before settling down when left alone.Initially wary and fearful, small breed dog, adopter will need to go slowly and give dog time and space to build confidence. Adopter should be prepared to work on building confidence and independence in being left alone using positive reinforcement/rewards based training. Unknown how he will behave around children; younger children likely not compatible given dog's wary and cautious behavior. [2026-08-07 18:18:00.000]
