MESSI hails from a Northern community of Pikangikum and came south with his 2 siblings, Paz & Kane (the World Cup Players Litter) to find his forever home. He’s had 2 sets of puppy vaccines, a microchip, “Interceptor Plus” dewormer and has been deemed a healthy boy by his Vet. We have no information on either parent so the breeds we have him listed as and the size he’ll grow to be are just educated guess based on what he looks like. He does come from a community with many stray dogs so he no doubt has many different breeds in him that are not as notable as well. He’s an active little puppy who loves to run around and play with a ball. He loves his humans and likes to act as a foot warmer by curling up on his foster’s feet for a nap. He’s also super chill, gentle but can get vocal T mealtimes if he figures you’re taking to long in getting him his dinner ready. He’s well socialized with people and will excitedly run up to greet them with a wagging tail.
MESSI is a happy-go-lucky, playful puppy who’s full of curiosity and is just learning what squeaky toys are all about and he’s always startled when one of his favourites actually has a squeaky in it. With his lovely personality and good nature he’s ready to find his forever home where he can continue to thrive and grow.
MESSI is crate trained and sleeps through the night without a peep and he’ll also nap in it during the day. He’s doing well with his potty training and is catching on that outside is the place to do his business. He’s not quite at the stage that he can ask to go outside but if he starts sniffing in one spot then that would be the time to take him out. He’s just started going on walks and he gets excited when he knows he’s going on one. Due to teething, he’s at a chewing stage and needs lots of chewy toys to satisfy that urge not to chew on anything that he shouldn’t. He really loves to chew on a Nyla bone to keep those little teeth busy too. He’s a very fast eater so he does use a slow feeder and it is recommended that he still continue using one after he’s adopted. If there’s another dog in the home it would be best to feed him in his crate so he doesn’t try and go after their food as well. He’s starting to learn some basic commands already such as “sit” for his meals and take treats “gentle.”
MESSI would love an active family who loves the outdoors, going on hikes, walks and will take him on adventures with them. He travels well in a vehicle and will just rest in his crate and quietly enjoy being driven around. He’s well socialized with other dogs and has a female one in his foster home whom he loves to run around and play with. He would definitely suit being with other dogs in his new home but would also do well provided he’s not left alone for long hours at a time. He can be an only dog as long as he’s not left alone for long periods of time. He’s in a home with a cat and they do interact and play together. He requires a fenced-in yard so he can run around and play safely. Children should be aged 6yrs and up plus be gentle, loving and caring towards animals.
MESSI like all puppies is cute, playful and fun but he’ll require a lot of time, patience and dedication to training. We need his adopter to commit to signing him up for puppy training/obedience classes so he can be the most well behaved puppy possible. His neuter is included in his adoption fee and his potential adopter must be in agreement to have his neuter performed by the time he’s 9 months of age or 60lbs (whichever comes first.) It will either be at the Rescue’s vet’s office or be at the Barrie SPCA. You do have the option to use your own vet and we’ll reimburse you what we would’ve paid for it at the SPCA. However, his neuter will still have to be performed in the above timeframe for the reimbursement and we’ll need a copy of the procedure invoice and an updated photo of him (preferably in a cone after the surgery.) We use the photo on our fb page along with other animals that were spay/neutered that same week.
