Meet Ginger Claire!
Ginger is a 7-month-old, 46-pound Golden Retriever with a huge personality, an even bigger heart, and enough enthusiasm for life to keep her future family laughing and moving!
If Ginger had a motto, it would probably be: “OH MY GOSH, YOU'RE MY NEW BEST FRIEND!” She absolutely loves everyone she meets. She is incredibly affectionate, loving, happy, and social. To Ginger, every new person is quite possibly the best thing that has ever happened to her.And Ginger has ENERGY! Although she's a Golden Retriever, think Border Collie-level energy. She is looking for an active family who wants a dog to play with, train, exercise, and include in their adventures. She ISN'T going to be satisfied being a couch potato all day.
One of her favorite activities is playing Frisbee. When her foster family throws a Frisbee back and forth, Ginger joins the game and tries to leap into the air to catch it. She also loves playing with her toys and is always ready for something fun.
Ginger loves other dogs, but she's still learning her doggy manners. She can be a LOT for another dog! She doesn't always recognize the social cues that mean, “Okay kid, I've had enough.” Instead, Ginger tends to keep trying to play. A playful, tolerant dog who enjoys her energy could be a great match, but a dog who prefers personal space may find her overwhelming. She will need continued guidance in learning appropriate boundaries with her canine friends.
We were told that Ginger is good with cats.
She's also a smart girl who enjoys learning. Ginger already knows sit, and her foster family has been working with her on down, turn around, go to sleep, shake, and sit pretty. She's at a fantastic age to continue training, and giving that busy brain something to do will be important for her.
Ginger is mostly house-trained. She has had only two accidents in her foster home. She doesn't reliably tell you when she needs to go outside yet, so her adopter will need to keep her on a regular potty schedule. If she's taken outside and given enough time to actually "tend to business"—without getting too distracted by all the exciting things happening around her—she does very well. She is crate trained; although, being in her crate definitely isn't her favorite activity. Leash walking is still very much a work in progress. Ginger is a strong puller, so her new family should be prepared to continue working on loose-leash walking and basic manners.
GINGER'S DREAM HOME In return, you're going to get a dog who is ridiculously happy to see you, loves with her entire heart, wants to be involved in everything you're doing, and seems convinced that every person she meets is absolutely wonderful.
Ginger isn't a low-energy Golden looking for a quiet retirement. he's a joyful, affectionate, slightly chaotic teenage Golden looking for people who think that sounds like a whole lot of fun. ❤️
