Meet Edgar: Cancer Survivor, Fluffy Gentleman, Currently Missing His Pants
Edgar is a big, fluffy, 4-year-old tuxedo cat who has already overcome more than most cats will ever face. After being diagnosed with carcinoma near the base of his spine, Edgar underwent extensive surgery to remove the tumor. Because this type of cancer has a high risk of returning, his treatment did not stop there. Edgar also received a personalized cancer vaccine created from his own tumor to help his immune system recognize and destroy any remaining cancer cells—and give him the best possible chance of keeping the carcinoma from growing back.
He completed his treatment like a champion and is now ready to begin the best part of his story: finding a permanent home.
Because his surgery required shaving much of his lower half, Edgar currently looks as though he forgot to put on his pants. His luxurious medium-length coat is growing back, but his temporary wardrobe malfunction only adds to his charm.
Edgar is a shy, sensitive boy who may greet unfamiliar situations with a hiss or an occasional swat. He was declawed as a kitten, and like many declawed cats, he has learned to use a little extra attitude when he feels uncertain. His tough-guy routine is mostly theater, though. Edgar is all hiss and no bite. Once he feels safe, he loves being petted and will show you the sweet, affectionate cat hiding beneath all that fluff and bravado.
Edgar would thrive in a quiet, predictable home with patient people who will let him settle in at his own pace. He does not like dogs and would prefer to be the only pet, although he may tolerate a calm cat or two who respects his space.
After everything Edgar has survived, he deserves a peaceful home where he can feel safe, receive plenty of affection, and grow his pants back in dignity.
