[BLUE]Background: Dog was found as a stray outside OAS on 8/5/26, ran into traffic and grabbed by a citizen with a small dog. Staff noted dog was bx00#28;very sweet and easy to intake.bx00#29; Initially given Green dot then updated to Yellow dot shortly after by the same staff person who noted bx00#28;she was stressed, lip licking / whiningbx00#29; in kennel bx00#28;but came forward and allowed me to pet her.bx00#29; Changed to Blue dot on 8/11/26 after an experienced Yellow volunteer was unable to remove leash by hand upon rekenneling (dog was avoidant of handling around her neck, mouthed at volunteer, and volunteer used a small stick-like tool to remove leash). Second time meeting handler for evaluation on 8/11/26. O: Dog was lying at the back of the kennel. Stood up and slowly walked to the front as handler opened the door. Slow and hesitant movement, head lowered, tail low, neutral expression. Lowered head, backed away to avoid leashing. Stepped out and put head through leash loop as handler opened the door wide. Slowly followed handler into the ward and walked alongside handler down the hallway with loose leash. Dropped leash in the yard. Dog walked away from handler. Turned to look at handler when spoken to with a soft voice. Backed away when handler made some incidental motion with their arms. Urinated in the yard. Handler crouched in the yard. Dog approached when encouraged with soft talk and open arms. Lowered tail, tight mouth, some lip licking. Stood very still for pets with low tail, closed mouth, some lip licking. Stepped forward with loose body after handler stopped petting for consent check. Dog continued to display some lip licking, closed mouth, body held very still on initial touch, then would come forward to initiate more contact with loose body and relaxed open mouth, soft and bright eyes with lots of eye contact. After approximately five minutes of interaction with frequent consent checks, dog was loose and relaxed open mouth, wagging tail, leaned into pets all over head, neck, chest, shoulders, back, with relaxed musculature. Did not follow tossed toys. Did not take treats. Walked loose leash back to kennel. Dog followed handler into kennel. Removed slip leash by hand while petting dog around the neck and head. A: Sensitive and unsure presentation initially, but warms up with time. Affiliative and approaches readily for pets/handling once she is comfortable. Shows enjoyment with pets. Presents as medium energy. Walks well on leash. Unknown if she knows any commands.B Did not show any interest in toys or treats. Blue for volunteer handling d/t somewhat conflicted and inconsistent body language with initial handling. Consider for Yellow if recommended by Crew volunteers. B P: Make available for adoption by appointment. Recommend adopters continue to work on basic manners (leash skills, recall, sit) using a patient, reward-based training approach. Unknown how this dog may behave around children; however, sensitivity to initial handling may make a home with young children less suitable. Potential adopters should be familiar with the characteristics of Husky breed dogs (require regular grooming, tendency to be vocal, jump / dig under fences, potential for prey drive), and be prepared to provide sufficient exercise and enrichment.[2026-08-13 02:17:00.000]
