This pretty girlie is Nahla. She is a just turned two year old female Labrador Retriever. Currently weighing in at 45 pounds, Nahla is a little bit on the smaller side, but holy heck is she CUTE!Nahla lost her home due to illness in her family - it wasn't easy for them, but they knew they needed to do what was best for their girl. Nahla is a very typical labby girl. She has plenty of energy - let's face it, labs are puppies until they are about 4 years old. Truth! Yet she controls it well despite momentary lapses when the joy is just TOO MUCH TO BEAR AND MUST COME OUT! She is good with other dogs, good with cats, has been around children of all ages and has done very well. We do think she might be a little bouncy for toddlers and babies, but most other kids would handle her quite well. She is house trained, crate trained (she LOVES her crate) and accustomed to being crated when nobody is home. She hasn't shown herself to be destructive at all when alone, she just prefers to lie in her crate even when the door is wide open. She knows how to sit, stay, down and come. Her favorite treat? Ice cubes. Quite affordable really. Say the word ice cube and she is READY FOR HER CUBE! She walks pretty well on a leash, and has not been allowed up on the furniture (yet), so don't be surprised if she chooses her crate or the floor as her relaxation spot. Nahla's worst habit is her momentary lack of control when she gets super happy and super excited - she very well may (okay, she definitely will), jump up and bounce off of your to express her joy. Easy to work with and extinguish - not to bad as far as worst habits go! Nahla is NOT a swimmer. She also hates the rain. And wet grass. She does need a little convincing to go out and potty when its wet or raining out - but tell her to do her business' and she will take care of it despite her distaste for the wet stuff. She absolutely loves balls of any kind (especially the bouncy tennis ones), and adores her stuffies as well. She rides well in the car and has never had any issues with anxiety or sickness while travelling. Nahla is a bit of a piggy girl. She tends to eat EXTREMELY fast, and as a result, is known to 'lose her lunch' after consuming it. Sure, she tends to clean it up herself after but...ew. In order to avoid this issue, she does need to be fed three small meals per day in a slow feeder. The act of less food and making it a little harder to gulp, has worked wonders in slowing her down, and she has no issues if that protocol is followed. We have followed it to a T` here at the shelter, and haven't had not one incident! This girl is truly a gem - a lovely family dog waiting for her lovely new family.Nahla will be ready for adoption soon. Currently we are accepting applications.
