FIV+This cat has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Most cats with this virus live long, healthy lives. In very rare and extreme cases it can progress and these cats can become sick. This virus is not contagious to humans or other animals and is only spread to other cats through deep bite wounds (drawing and ingesting blood). Casual contact such as sharing food and water bowls, grooming, or peacefully living together is considered a very low-risk method of transmission. This cat should always be kept inside and needs to get along with other cats in the home (no intense fighting). Since this is a virus that affects the immune system, it is important to stay on top of preventative care: annual veterinary exams, flea and parasite control, vaccines and a healthy, protein-rich diet. FIV-positive cats can make wonderful companions and, with appropriate routine care, may have a normal or near-normal lifespan.Hawkeye is a sweet boy. He is affectionate and very playful.
