Meet Ellie, the long haired black chihuahua / terrier mix. Ellie came into the Shelter with their two siblings Chickpea and Bear. They went to a foster home for a bit of time to grow a little older and prepare for adoption. Their foster reports: Ellie (long black fur) - she is the least vocal of the group. Loves to play and snuggle equally, most interested in and calm around the bigger dog. The puppies are doing great! They are fun, playful, snuggly, and get along great with the humans in the home (adults and kids ages 9-13) and the dog in the house (1.5 year old labradoodle). They love to play, sometimes rough, with each other, jumping, running, chasing, barking, mouthing, tug-o-war with toys and socks. And they chase and run and jump on the bigger dog. They don't mouth as much with humans, maybe because they do it to each other. They have been in an x-pen together when they are home alone and will pee and poop on pee pads. When we are home with them they have access to the outside and will sometimes pee and poop out there but have not mastered potty training. They do not show signs of resource guarding when they are being fed. When they have tired themselves out they will huddle together for a nap or crawl onto the nearest lap to snuggle. The crate is in the x-pen and they snuggle in there together during the night.Ellie is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week. Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
