Meet Mae! The shelter staff thinks she is a sweet young Australian Shepherd mix! When she first arrived at the shelter, the new sights, sounds, and surroundings were a little overwhelming for her. With time, patience, and a gentle approach, she has been slowly coming out of her shell and building trust with our staff. Sheâs looking for a quiet, peaceful home where she can take things at her own pace and have a patient personâor familyâwho will give her the time and encouragement she needs to blossom. With positive reinforcement, consistency, and plenty of love, we believe this special girl will grow into the confident, wonderful companion sheâs meant to be. If youâre looking for a gentle soul and are willing to give her the time she needs to feel safe and secure, she may be the perfect match. Her journey is just beginning, and sheâs hoping to find someone who will be there to help her every step of the way. Mae is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week. Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
