RAGNAR: Handsome!
Port St. Lucie, Florida - *Currently being Fostered with Dogs In Bloom - dog training
Ragnar is an approximately 1 year old male Belgian Malinois, neutered and a healthy 55-60lbs and growing!
He was found as stray in July and it wasn't long before the shelter staff quickly fell in love with him
Knowing that Malinois don't typically do well in a kennel environment and he was going to need MORE, I agreed to foster sweet Ragnar.
August 21st upon moving to foster care we discovered:
-his previous owners had taught him nothing
-he was wild on leash, didn't know how to play, he would grab a toy and run/catch me if you can, come when called/no way, zero obedience
-he was also quite under weight and has since filled out beautifully
Here are some of the things we love about Ragnar:
Captain confident! Even tempered, no sketchy weirdo behavior
He's young, strong, smart, a clear thinker, driven, engaging and ready to work!
Drive level - on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) he's a 6
His favorite Toy is life
He's your typical young Malinois, full of "let's get up and GO!"
He's a fast learner and thrives on daily engagement, training, play, mental and physical exercise. Then has a lovely chill switch and will happily lay by your side with his favorite toy
So far he's learned foundations for all the basics: sit, wait at doorways, down, stay, come when called, out/drop it, leave it. As well as handler engagement games for retrieves & tug fun
Loves his person and actively seeks affection. They don't call them Velcro dogs for nothing!
Loves water sports! he's been introduced to the river, dove right in after his toy. Working on learning how to swim. Dock diving candidate? Maybe!
Crates well when he's had proper fulfillment (brain & body work)
Dog neutral in passing. We are working on slow dog introductions
Potential adopter requirements:
Breed experience, he's not for a 1st time Belgian Malinois owner
Someone that has the time, energy and know how to raise a young Malinois
Dedication to his continued training and outlets to find his true passion
Fenced yard preferred
Must be a minimum of 25 years of age
Home owner preferred
Not child, cat or small animal tested - so as a general rule he will not be placed with children under 14, cats or small dogs *placement may vary based on adopters level of proven experience living with all of the above
