Meet LaZboy, a big, goofy, incredibly lovable Pyr who is ready to find a family of his very own! LaZboy has that classic Great Pyrenees look: a huge head, huge body, and big ears to match his equally big personality. He’s majestic, playful, silly, and full of wonderfully expressive facial expressions. Found as a stray in Georgia, LaZboy came into rescue after suffering from heat stroke, but he hasn’t let his rough start keep him from embracing all the good things life has to offer.
LaZboy is housebroken and walks beautifully on leash, making him a great candidate for a leash-walk-only home. Otherwise, he’d love a 6-foot fenced yard to play in. He’s a true gentleman on his walks and even enjoys a quick nighttime jog before bed. He knows “sit” and “down,” and is very smart and eager to learn. He has a medium activity level: he can be wonderfully playful with you and other dogs, but he’s equally happy to settle in beside you, quietly chew a bone or toy, and watch TV.
LaZboy absolutely loves being where his people and canine friends are, so he prefers being inside with you rather than hanging out by himself outdoors. He does very well with other dogs in the home and seems to view everyone as his next play partner! He would love a playful dog in his forever home, although he could also be perfectly happy as the one-and-only if his family gives him plenty of interaction. He is happy around cats, too. He was especially interested in his foster’s free-roaming house rabbit, whom he sniffed and even licked, so any home with small animals should be prepared for his enthusiastic curiosity. LaZboy also seems to enjoy meeting new people and has done well with neighbors and friends during outings to Petsense.
When it comes to fun, LaZboy is always ready for an adventure. He loves car rides, running errands, playing with toys, romping with other dogs, and especially enjoys his Gorilla Wood Dog Chew. He’s also a big fan of freshly cooked steak and beef lung treats, although he’s a little iffy about peanut butter.
LaZboy is a total cuddle-bug who wants nothing more than to be close to his people. Sit down, and chances are LaZboy will plant himself right beside you, offer you that famous giant Pyr paw, and ask for all the affection you’re willing to give. His ideal home would be with someone experienced with Pyrs who understands the joys - and sheer size - of this wonderful breed and is ready to continue his training. LaZboy just wants someone to love him as much as he’s ready to love them. He’s eager to learn, explore, and discover all the amazing things this life has to offer - and he can’t wait to do it with a family of his very own!

Fees: Adoption fees are determined on a sliding scale depending on age, location and transport. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. Fees for dogs adopted locally start at $400 and can range up to $700 for puppies under six months. Puppies placed on spay/neuter contracts receive $100 back when the dog is spayed or neutered. Fees for senior dogs (7 or older) and foster dogs will be adjusted accordingly.

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
