We have absolutely no idea how Andrew ended up as a stray. What we do know is that he is all the good things we love about poodles wrapped up in one stunning little white package.
Andrew is friendly, affectionate and absolutely LOVES people. He isn't looking for a canine wrestling partner, a basket full of toys or a backyard full of squirrels to chase. Andrew's toy of choice is his person. Give him a lap, a chair beside you and the security of knowing he belongs, and this boy is happy.
He rides well in the car, is crate trained and is excellent with other dogs. He peacefully hangs out with them but doesn't seek them out for play. Andrew would much rather pop himself into a chair beside his human — or, even better, climb into that human's lap. He can sleep in a crate, but we're pretty sure Andrew would vote for sleeping with you.
Must have: A person who wants an affectionate little companion and will make Andrew part of everyday life. Consistent parasite prevention is especially important for him.
Exercise: Moderate. Walks, outings and everyday activity will suit Andrew nicely. He isn't a high-drive dog.
Best with: Someone looking for a loving companion dog who genuinely wants to be close to his people.
Not ideal for: A home looking for a dog who will entertain himself for hours playing fetch or roughhousing with other dogs. That's simply not Andrew's thing.
Energy level: Moderate.
Good with dogs? Yes. Andrew is excellent with other dogs, although he generally coexists rather than initiating play.
Good with kids? TBD based on meet and greet.
Cats? Unknown.
Fun fact: Andrew LOVES chairs. If there's an empty one nearby, don't be surprised to turn around and discover a little white poodle sitting in it as though someone pulled it out especially for him.
Medical note: Andrew has a sensitive system when it comes to intestinal parasites. In September he became quite ill from a hookworm infection and developed significant anemia. He was treated aggressively and responded well; his follow-up fecal on September 16 was negative for hookworms and the other parasites tested. Because we now know how hard parasites can hit him, his new family needs to be diligent about year-round parasite prevention and routine fecal testing.
And the one flaw? Those eye stains. We've tried. Andrew apparently believes a ridiculously handsome white poodle needs at least one imperfection to keep him humble. They don't bother him one bit, and we hope they won't bother you either.
Andrew came to us without the security every dog deserves. We can't change whatever happened before he arrived, but we can make sure the next chapter is different. He is ready for a lap of his own, a person of his own and a home where he never has to wonder again where he belongs.
