Meet Deuce! A573603 Deuce is a 1-year-old, 70 lb German Shepherd/Mastiff mix who has been waiting at the shelter since 8/25, after being brought in as a stray. Deuce is just a big, goofy, playful puppy with a healthy bit of young-boy energy! Heâs friendly, social, and clearly wants to engage with the world around him. He loves people, although heâs not the type of dog who needs to be glued to your side or sitting in your lap. He seems very interested in treats, too! Heâs a handsome young guy with the cutest floppy ears, the most expressive eyes, although he could stand to gain a few pounds.Right now, Deuce is wearing a cone while a small skin wound in his undercarriage area heals.Deuce also seemed very interested in meeting other dogs, although he has not yet had a formal dog-to-dog evaluation. As always, slow introductions after appropriate decompression is recommended. But what has impressed us most about Deuce is how wonderful he has been with children.Iâve personally witnessed two different interactions between Deuce and children under 8, and they showed two different sides of this sweet boy. When one child wanted to play, Deuce was enthusiastic, playful, and friendly. With another little girl, he simply stood calmly beside her while she gently petted him. No jumping all over her, no overwhelming her â just a big dog happily enjoying the attention. For a young, energetic dog who is currently stuck in a stressful shelter environment with very little opportunity to burn off that puppy energy, Deuce is showing some really promising qualities. He has the friendliness, playfulness, and gentleness that could make him an amazing family dog with the right home, structure, exercise, and continued training.Deuce deserves the chance to grow up outside of a kennel and show someone just how special he can be.
