Some of the best relationships take a little patience, and Ripley is a girl who makes every bit of that patience worthwhile. This beautiful blue-gray shorthair has a quiet sweetness, a playful side, and a heart that just needs the right person to feel safe enough to share it. She has a unique little face thanks to a healed injury to her bottom lip that gives her the appearance of an adorable overbite. It's part of her story, but it certainly doesn't define her. Ripley is so much more than what she's been through, and she's ready for someone to see just how special she really is!
Ripley's journey hasn't been an easy one. She came to us after a Nextdoor post about a kitten found with a severe injury to her lower lip. Thankfully, the good Samaritan who found her got her to a veterinarian right away. Her injury was extensive, and we weren't sure she would pull through. Her bottom lip had been severely damaged, likely from road rash after being thrown from or falling out of a moving vehicle. But Ripley proved to be a little fighter and defied the odds! Today, she's here, safe and ready for the next chapter of her life. We can't change what happened to her, but we can make sure the rest of her story is filled with love.
Ripley is a sweet girl who takes a little time to warm up to new people and unfamiliar surroundings. She's naturally shy and may initially keep her distance, especially if someone approaches with an outstretched hand. She enjoys being petted, but she'd much rather decide when and how that happens. Once she begins to trust you, though, you'll discover that she has quite an affectionate side! She likes being picked up and carried around, and when she's ready for attention, she can be surprisingly persistent. If you're typing away or getting lost in your latest doom-scrolling session, don't be surprised if Ripley patiently waits for you to put everything down and give her the pets she's requesting. She's a polite little girl, but she knows when it's her turn!
One of the most rewarding things about Ripley is watching her confidence grow. She may start out as a quiet observer, but once she feels comfortable and safe, her playful personality begins to shine. She enjoys climbing and playing with fuzzy mice, especially ones with long dangling tails, and she loves a good wand toy. She can also show off her playful skills once she decides the environment is trustworthy. Most of the time, Ripley prefers lounging and hanging out rather than being constantly on the go. Her favorite sleeping spot is a cozy cave bed where she can curl up and enjoy a little privacy. She's a gentle, smart, well-mannered girl who just needs the opportunity to blossom at her own pace.
Ripley is fairly quiet overall, but she does have a few things worth announcing. She'll meow when she's hungry or when she wants some attention, and when she's happy and comfortable, you'll hear those lovely purrs. She's food motivated and enjoys both wet and dry food. She's also a social eater, although she may occasionally decide someone else's meal looks even better than her own! Keep an eye on your plate and the other pets' dishes because this little lady has a bit of a food-thief streak. She has excellent litter box habits and uses scratching pads and posts appropriately. Nail trims aren't her favorite activity, but we've discovered a simple trick: just one nail a day keeps the drama away! She's much happier with short, manageable sessions than a full manicure appointment.
Ripley has had positive experiences with other cats and kittens and would really enjoy having a friendly feline companion in her forever home. She plays well with Bishop, although they aren't truly bonded. A confident, friendly cat who can give her some companionship without overwhelming her could be a wonderful addition to her life. Unfortunately, Ripley has had negative experiences with a small dog and would be happiest in a dog-free home. She's also fearful of young children, so an adult-only home or one without children would be the best fit. She has been around adult men, women, and young adults, but even with people she eventually accepts, building trust takes time. Ripley isn't aggressive; she's simply a sensitive girl who needs people to respect her boundaries and let her decide when she's ready for friendship.
Ripley would thrive with someone who understands that earning her trust is a process, not a race. She needs a calm, patient home where she can settle in, observe her surroundings, and approach new people on her own terms. She may not be the cat who immediately runs to greet visitors or jumps into a stranger's lap, but that's what makes the bond you build with her so special. The first time she approaches you for pets, the first time she chooses to curl up nearby, and the first time she confidently asks for your attention will feel like little victories worth celebrating. Give her a safe place to retreat, some fun toys, a cozy cave bed, and the time she needs, and you'll get to experience the wonderful feeling of becoming her person.
Adopting Ripley will be good for your heart, and it will be even better for hers. She has already overcome so much, and now she deserves someone who will look past her shy beginnings and see the sweet, playful, affectionate girl waiting underneath. Someone who will pick her, choose her, and give her the chance to feel completely at home. Building a relationship with Ripley may take a little longer than it would with a more outgoing kitty, but watching her blossom and seeing her personality come out as she learns to trust you is a reward that simply can't be topped.
Ripley doesn't need someone to rescue her all over again. She needs someone to love the little survivor she already is. She's waiting for the person who will give her the time, patience, and forever home she deserves. Maybe that person is you!
