Rusty #12 | 1-Year-Old Chihuahua Mix | Your Loyal Little Shadow
Rusty is a 1-year-old Chihuahua mix (18 lbs) with a gentle, slightly shy personality and a heart full of love. He may take a minute to warm up, but once he does, he’s incredibly affectionate—resting his head on you, offering his paw for attention, and even showing off his adorable little “dance.”
He enjoys walks and does great on leash, though he can be a bit hesitant leaving the house at first. Rusty has a nice medium energy level—happy with a couple of short walks or play sessions each day, followed by plenty of cuddle time. He loves toys (especially stuffed animals) and is motivated by both food and affection.
Rusty thrives with other dogs and would do best in a home with a canine companion. He has had positive interactions with both dogs and cats and has done well around kids. He tends to bond closely with one person (often a woman) but is friendly with everyone.
He’s almost house trained, does great in his crate, and can be left alone for a few hours when crated with other dogs nearby. Rusty is still working on a few puppy behaviors like play biting and jumping but is responding well to structure and guidance.
Rusty came from a hoarding situation in Texas and is now blossoming in foster care. He’s currently on Apoquel for dry skin and is regrowing his coat beautifully.
Rusty’s ideal home includes another dog, a patient adopter, and lots of love. In return, you’ll get a sweet, loyal companion who just wants to be by your side.
If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.
The adoption fee for this pet is $400. Our adoption fee covers the following:
