Meet Woody, the short and stout mixed breed. Woody came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after his previous guardian as moving and unable to take him with them. He lived in a home with a guinea pig who he would occasionally sniff but otherwise leave alone. A home with small animals may be a fit with a slow, thoughtful introduction. Woody is friendly with strangers but preferred to keep his distance from young children as they made him nervous. If there are children in the home, they should be older and respectful of Woodyâs need for space if he is feeling nervous. Any resident children in the home need to meet prior to adoption. Larger dogs make Woody a little nervous and he has coexisted with smaller dogs that have visited the house. Woody may enjoy the company of a mellow dog in his home or may be happiest as the only dog. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Woody was described as house trained in his most recent home. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week. Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
