Overview
Looking for a calm, easygoing senior gentleman to share your couch with? Meet Marli, an 8-year-old purebred miniature dachshund weighing 13 pounds, with a beautiful long, cream piebald coat.
Marli came to Little Paws after a bite incident that his foster describes as a case of him being misunderstood rather than aggressive by nature. In his foster home, he has been calm, quiet, and easy to care for, the kind of sweet dog who just wants a comfortable spot and people who understand him. One of his favorite little rituals is rolling around in his bed after every walk.
Environment
Marli is fully house and pad trained and doesn't need a crate, which he isn't a fan of anyway. He genuinely craves his walks now and does great on a leash; he used to try to slip out of his harness but has long since outgrown that habit. A yard would be nice but isn't required, and he's a quiet, easy housemate for a home with shared walls. As long as he has some canine friends and access to the couch, he's content for a few hours on his own.
Pets & People
Marli does get nervous around new people at first, but he opens up fairly quickly and loves to cuddle with anyone willing to show him affection. He's done well with his foster's sons, ages 9 and 14, and given his bite history, he'll do best in a home with older children or adults who can read his cues and give him space when he needs it. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs and lights up on group walks with his canine friends. He's gentle with treats, though mealtime can be a slower process since he's used to having his bowl available to graze throughout the day rather than eating on a schedule.
Health & Special Needs
Marli was previously prescribed trazodone, an anti-anxiety medication. His new family will want to check in with a vet about whether any anxiety support is needed going forward. He can be restless and fidgety in the car, so a calm, reassuring approach to travel will help him settle.
Location
Marli is available for adoption from Miami, FL. Pleased note: Marli does not like the car. Please email applications@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Marley is $325.00.
