Meet Socks, the leggy mixed breed. Socks came to the Shelter after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. This energetic gal is needing an active adopter to meet her day to day needs. She can be jumpy and mouthy (especially when excited). These behaviors can be overwhelming for children or people inexperienced with dogs, especially since Socks is a larger sized dog. Socks has attended playgroup at the Shelter and has enjoyed wrestling and running around with other large sized dogs. She can be a tactile player (pawing at the dogs and jumping on them) so any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption to ensure that the dogs jive. Staff have observed that when another dog is present, Socks is less likely to jump and mouth on people. Due to this, a home with a canine companion is highly recommended moving forward. Socks was outdoors previously and should transition to indoor living as she wants to be with people and a part of the family. Adopters should be patient with Socks to help her transition to her adoptive home and learn life skills and manners (like leash walking and potty training). Good news is that Socks is HIGHLY food motivated and super smart so she is up for the challenge of bonding with her new people through learning. Socks is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
