Meet Moana, the adolescent Queensland Heeler and terrier mix. Moana is an endearing, soft pup who came to the Shelter after her previous guardian had an unplanned litter. Moana was an outdoor dog in her previous home. She wants to be with her people and a part of the family. Adopters should be patient as she transitions to indoor living in regards to potty training and leash walking. Moana will bond and learn with her new adopter through positive reinforcement based training. She has lived with other dogs, primarily those who she is related to. She seems curious about other dogs but undersocialized with new dogs. A home with another dog may be a fit after a meet ân greet at the Shelter. Adopters should prioritize decompression after adoption â bonding with Moana, learning about her and keeping things simple. As she gets comfortable, they can start to expand her world a bit bigger and see how she does. High traffic areas like dog beaches are not the best space for Moana at this time. Moana has lived with children as young as 11 years old and did well. She has chased cats in a previous home and would do best in a feline free home. Moana is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
