She beat the odds, found a home, and now she's hoping for one more chance to find her forever family.Meet Flippers! You may recognize Flippers from about a year ago when she arrived at the shelter sporting her famous flat feet, this special girl spent quite a while in casts and then in foster care while she learned what it meant to be loved, safe, and part of a family. During that time, she blossomed into the wonderful dog she is today.Flippers was adopted and was happily living her best life, but unfortunately, circumstances changed when her adopter had to take a new job and could no longer keep her. Through no fault of her own, Flippers has found herself back with us and searching for a new family to love.To our surprise, Flippers is still very much a puppy at heart! She's matured in all the right ways and has gained some manners along the way, but she still has plenty of playful energy and enthusiasm for life. She recently spent time with our behaviorist, where she did very well and showed just how smart and adaptable she can be.Flippers has lived successfully with a small dog and enjoys canine companionship. She has also lived with younger children and did not show any issues. Cats, however, are a little too exciting for Flippers, so she is looking for a cat-free home. Because she's an active, athletic girl who loves to explore, she will require a home with a secure 6-foot fenced yard.Flippers has already overcome so much in her life, and through it all she has remained the happy, resilient dog we fell in love with from the beginning. Now all she needs is another chance at the forever home she deserves.Could Flippers be the missing piece in your family? Come meet this unforgettable girl and see why so many people have been rooting for her since day one. Flipper's adoption fee is $125, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption. Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. We welcome adopters from out of state to apply! _When it comes to our pets, we're all-inclusive! ACSKC Health Care for Each Adopted Pet Includes:Dogs: Preventatives for parasites, vaccines (Kennel Cough, Distemper, Rabies), spay/neuter, microchip, behavioral assessment.Cats: Parasite treatment, FeLV/FIV testing, deworming for kittens, vaccines (Distemper, Rabies), spay/neuter, microchip. What You’ll Take Home:Toys, treats, and food sampleRabies tag, microchip number, and medical recordsA “Pet Pal Packet” with feeding info, training tips, and guidance for helping your new pet adjust

We are an open-admission animal shelter, and welcome every animal in need that we can legally accept. As an open-admission shelter, we take in many animals who may not be immediate candidates for adoption. Whenever possible, our foster parents work with these animals to rehabilitate them and qualify them for adoption to good homes. There is no set limit to the length of time an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as we have space, and the pet appears to be able to maintain good physical and emotional health in our kennel environment (or foster home), the pet will remain in our program. Every animal, however long it remains in our adoption program, is guaranteed a clean, safe, comfortable space, nutritious food and fresh water, medical supervision and, when needed, care and supplies, as well as interaction with volunteers who groom, exercise, and socialize with them. We do our best to move young puppies and kittens and other special-needs animals into foster care, where they remain until they are ready for adoption. We also work with breed-specific groups to find homes for some animals, in order to maintain space within our own shelter. We do everything in our power to avoid the euthanasia of healthy animals, or of animals who can be rehabilitated or go to homes that will provide care for a lifetime. We are able to find new homes for the great majority of our pets and appreciate your continued support as we push towards a low-kill community. To reach this goal, we are working to create not a no-kill shelter, but a low-kill community where all adoptable animals are able to find forever loving homes. These are the steps we are taking to achieve that effect: Maintain a widespread effort to promote spaying and neutering of all companion animals Continually increase the number of shelter animals that are adopted to new homes through our programs. Encourage responsible pet ownership through public-awareness campaigns, humane education programs, and efforts to legally eliminate puppy mills and backyard breeders Supporting pet owners through training classes, counseling, and referrals to outside information sources The Humane Society of Kent County Maryland, Inc is a private, charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are not affiliated with any other animal-welfare organization, locally or nationally. We rely entirely on the income from our community and on donations from the public in order to keep our doors open. We invite you to become more involved by becoming a volunteer or a foster parent. See our Programs link for information on how to do this.
