Odin is a young boy with so much potential, but he is also a reminder that loving a dog and being prepared for a dog are two very different things. Odin was adopted approximately six months ago but unfortunately returned when the training, structure, and guidance he needed to thrive were not provided. We owe it to Odin to make sure his next chapter is different, and this time, we are determined to get it right.Shelter life proved to be overwhelming for Odin, and rather than allow him to continue struggling in an environment that made him anxious, we chose a different path. Odin is currently off-site with a dedicated foster trainer who is working one-on-one with him, focusing on his behaviors and helping him develop the skills he needs to succeed. This arrangement gives Odin the individualized attention he deserves while allowing him to remain outside the shelter environment. Our hope is to keep him moving forward, building confidence, and preparing for the forever home he has yet to find. Now, let's talk about the good stuff! Odin knows his name, can sit and shake, and absolutely LOVES to play fetch. Throw him a ball, and he'll happily bring it right back, drop it at your feet, and eagerly wait for you to throw it again. He's got the enthusiasm, the drive, and the makings of a wonderful companion for someone who is ready to channel all that German Shepherd energy into something positive. But please understand that Odin's intelligence, energy, and breed characteristics are not things that will simply disappear with time. He needs more than a backyard and a few walks around the block. He needs a job, a routine, mental stimulation, meaningful exercise, and someone who is committed to continuing his training every single day.We are going to be very honest about what Odin needs because he deserves nothing less. He is NOT a suitable match for a first-time dog owner or someone without experience handling German Shepherds or similarly demanding working breeds. Odin needs a younger, extremely active individual or couple who genuinely enjoys an active lifestyle and is prepared to make his training a consistent part of everyday life. Patience, dedication, structure, and follow-through are non-negotiable. The work cannot stop once he comes home, and his future family must be willing to continue the training already being invested in him. Odin has so much potential, but potential flourishes only when someone is willing to put in the work.At Macomb County Animal Control, we are committed to finding Odin the right home, not simply the next home. Applications are being accepted online, and approved applicants will be directed to meet Odin at his foster trainer's location. This is intentional, as we want to protect the progress he has made and avoid bringing him back into the shelter environment. Odin is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccines and preventative care, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is ready for the right person to step up and become the consistent, committed partner he needs.
