Meet Ruthie! This adorable lady was hanging around a horse barn, charming everyone with her friendly ways, rolling over and giving everyone leg rubs and head butts. A foster mom who frequented the barn took her in, figuring she would be a perfect cat for someone. At first, Ruthie didn't know what to make of her new environment since this was obviously the first time she was in a house. She cowered and hid. But eventually, she learned that four walls, a ceiling, litter boxes and the comfort of indoor temperatures was a good thing. And now she is back to her old self, rolling over and giving leg rubs and head butts to her foster parents. She flips super fast to give you access for belly rubs. She also has discovered the joys of sleeping in a bed next to her foster parents...and of course they don't mind that either.
Ruthie has such a unique coloring (almost patchwork orange and grey tabby) and a human-like face perfect for social media! Ruthie doesn't mind being the only kitty, but her foster parents have found she really seems to enjoy the presence of other friendly and playful kitties. Engaging and friendly kitties help her keep active, otherwise she seems content to perch herself and watch the environment. She doesn't mind being picked up and transported from one place to another in the house, especially if that is followed by pets and scratches. Her foster parents are working on her tolerance for being held on laps. But she doesn't mind laying down next to you. She has never experienced toys before, and her foster parents are working on getting her to learn to lunge after such things as feather wands--right now, she is content to just watch them with great fascination. Her foster parents are sure in a bigger environment, she will be a proficient toy player.
Ruthie apparently had not such great experiences with dogs as she hisses and lunges and swats at the resident dog, so a dog-free home is important to her. She would make a great companion for someone in an apartment or anyone looking for a calm pet.
Ruthie was born around July 2022 and is currently living in a foster home in New Cumberland. Her adoption donation is $115 and includes age-appropriate vaccines, dewormer, flea treatment, Felv/FIV testing (negative), microchip, and spay.
