Meet Nala, the cute chocolate female Australian Shepherd mix. Nala came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after the new landlord changed their dog policy and the family could no longer care for her. She has lived in a home with a small breed dog and did well. She has also been around children as young as 6 years old. Nala has not lived with cats but some would come over to the yard and Nala did not chase them. When left alone, Nala would sometimes dump the trash out. Adopters observed that she was potty trained. As a young, adolescent pup, Nala would thrive in a home with an active adopter who will engage her mentally and physically on a daily basis. A home with other animals may be a fit with a slow, thoughtful introduction. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Any cats should be introduced in a slow, thoughtful manner. Nala is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
