Meet Tucker, the 2 year old male papillon mix dog. Tucker was surrendered to the Shelter after his previous guardianâs schedule kept him from being able to care for Tucker. Tucker is a shy, sensitive dog that would thrive with a guardian who will be thoughtful and patient with him in the transition. He runs away from things that make him nervous so his next family should ensure he is securely contained on leash, collar and harness or indoors with them, especially while he decompresses from the transition to his home. Once Tucker warms up, he lets his guard down and starts to bond with people. A patient adopter will be rewarded with a loyal sidekick in Tucker. Tucker has lived in a home with children under 12, teens and adults. In his previous home, he was not left alone very often. He will need a guardian that will work with him on his ability to be left alone and will plan to be with him more often than not until he is more comfortable doing so. Tucker would prefer to be the only pet in his next home. He does not like to share his resources (humans, toys and food) with other dogs. He may enjoy some dog friends to walk with out in the world but doesnât want them to come home with him. A home without felines is required as Tucker is reported to have a high prey drive. Tucker has a history of doing great in the car. He knows âsitâ, âupâ, âdownâ, âcarâ, and âhomeâ. He would thrive with a guardian who will bond with him through positive reinforcement based training.Tucker is available for pre-adoption. Come meet him, fall in love and take him home after his neuter surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
