This 8-month-old neutered male Lab mix is looking for an experienced, breed-knowledgeable adopter who can provide the structure, patience, and guidance a young dog needs. He is not yet responding reliably to verbal cues, but he does take treats gently and is ready to continue learning. He would thrive in an active, structured, adult-only home, as his shy nature, mouthiness, potential resource concerns, and prey drive may make a home with children unsuitable. Introductions to other dogs should be completed in a controlled setting. His new family will need to provide daily leash walks and a securely fenced backyard, with no off-leash parks at this time while he develops his recall and his adopter has an opportunity to monitor his behaviour, spend plenty of one-on-one time with him, and build a strong bond. His adopter will also need to implement a food program at home using strategies such as interactive bowls and toys, hand feeding, and trade-ups. A basic manners class and/or private behaviour training is required to help give him the skills and confidence he needs to succeed.
