BIO: This little guy just can’t seem to catch a break. Artie originally came from North Carolina, and since arriving, we discovered he is heartworm positive and has a mild back condition. His new adopters will need to ensure he avoids jumping and stairs, and stays at a healthy weight. His heartworm treatment will be complete by the end of December, at which point he will be ready for adoption.
When Artie first arrived, he was quite shy. After nearly a month in rescue, he has really come out of his shell and become very social with people he knows. Adopters should expect him to be a bit shy initially, but with a little time, he will become a loving and playful companion. He loves playing games, which includes playfully stealing items like dryer sheets, toys, or paper so you will chase him!
Artie currently uses a doggie door. If his new home does not have one, he will need to be taken out to potty on a regular schedule. Artie is crate trained so or if you were going to be gone crating him would be fine.
Our must haves for the little man are:
A fenced in yard is a must
Another small adult dog for him to hang with
Someone that can be home more than not
Please no apartments, high rises or condos
If you think you can give Artie a great forever home then don’t waste time. Fill out our application. He’ll be waiting for you to take him home the end of December. Thank you for thinking of rescue and wanting to help the homeless one rescue at a time.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We cannot adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
