BIO: Toby was turned over to us by another rescue when he was returned to them for a severe ear infection. They cleared that up but felt that we would be better at finding him a forever home because of him being a Dachshund Mix. We are doing a DNA test so we should know what he’s mix with.
Toby gets along with other dogs but can be hand shy with people trying to put their hand over his head. We feel there was some abuse in his history, for that reason the adopter needs to understand how he can be at first but since being in rescue he’s trust us more and becoming less fearful of hands. What we do know is he loves to play ball, he may not always bring it back to you but he loves the game.
Our must haves for Toby are:
A fenced in yard
Another senior dog to hang around with
Someone that is retired and can spend time with him as he loves his humans once he trusts
No apartments, high rises or condos and he does like to bark at things
If you think you can give this sweet boy a home then reach to the rescue. He deserves a good home because we are not sure he’s had that.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We cannot adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
