[YELLOW]Background: Brought in stray by finder on 9/1/26. Finder noted that dog was very responsive, well trained, and friendly. Dog was calm/relaxed while riding in the car. Given Yellow dot on intake. Intake staff noted some flinching when touching but allowed all handling for intake procedures. Handling evaluation on 9/3/26. O: Clean kennel. At the front of the kennel with neutral posture, low tail. Slightly leash avoidant, but stepped out into the loop when given space. Hugged the wall away from barking wardmates exiting the ward. Moderate to hard pulling down the hallway. Urinated and defecated immediately on entering the yard. Dropped leash in the yard. Dog paced the perimeter of the yard. Pricked ears, standing tall with some soft wagging tail looking towards another dog who was pacing the fence in another yard. Followed handler away from the fence with some baby talk. Out of sight of the other dog, this dog oriented to handler. Leaned into pets around head, neck, and back legs. Neutral and tolerant of handling over the back, legs, belly. Some flinching with initial touch. Sat when asked. Took treats with a soft mouth. Looked toward but did not follow tossed squeaky toys or balls. Walked to office space to meet staff person. Dog was neutral, somewhat hesitant approaching unfamiliar person to sniff. Moderate pulling returning to kennel. Entered kennel ahead of handler. Tolerant of handling around neck and head while removing slip leash by hand. Volunteer notes to date are consistent with handling evaluation. Additional notes that dog knows sit, down, and paw.A: Sensitive, affiliative adult dog with some existing training. Medium energy. Shows enjoyment with pets. Knows sit, down, and paw. Possibly house trained (eliminates immediately in the yard). Treat motivated. Did not show interest in toys. Yellow for volunteer handling: dog is large and can pull strongly, some flinching with initial touch. Affiliative and relaxed with handling otherwise. Consider for Green if recommended by volunteers. P: Make available for adoption. Recommend adopters continue to work on basic manners (leash skills, recall, sit) using a patient, reward-based training approach. Unknown how this dog may do with children. May be sensitive to unexpected touch as exhibited with flinching on initial touch while handling, which may make a home with young children less suitable.[2026-09-06 11:19:00.000]
