Bear Bear came out of a true hoarder situation. Her owner was elderly and fell and had to go into hospice. Bear Bear is a wonderful cat. She is petite and will forever have a kitten quality to her because of her small stature. However, the person who brought her to me, knew her when she was a baby and assured me that she is 2 years old.
Bear Bear is a playful cat. When I sweep her living quarters she likes to chase the broom and "help" me clean up. She is a sweet little cat and is very beautiful. Everyone who sees her remarks at her striking amber eyes.
Bear Bear went to the vet when she arrived because her gums were very inflamed and needed to be evaluated. The vet said that her teeth looked good and gave her an antibiotic and steroid shot. The vet said that they often can get months of relief with this combination of treatment for this type of situation and i am happy to report that her gums look way better and much less painful. The vet said that a hoarder situation is the perfect place for viruses to lurk and that may be the cause of her condition. Thus, it will be important to monitor her teeth and get treatment should the inflammation return but it appears to be a manageable condition for her.
I am giving immune support with Forti Flora and L-Lysine in her food which will help manage this also. She loves canned food and I would recommend continuing with a serving daily and mix these two treatments into the wet food. She currently is eating American Journey canned chicken and Costco dry food.
