Pennie is a 2-year-old, 45 lbs female Irish Setter mix who recently gave birth to 9 healthy puppies and is now ready to find a loving home of her own.
Pennie is house trained and sleeps through the night. She can be put in a crate but she prefers not to be in one. She seldom barks but rather will get a bit vocal during feeding times or for attention. She walks well on leash but will stop dead in her tracks to admire squirrels and small birds and will occasionally try to chase them.
She enjoys the company of other dogs but during initial introductions she can be guarded and unsure. She would be perfectly fine as the only dog as well. She doesn’t live with a cat but doesn’t seem to care about the ones that she has seen on walks. She has been friendly with everyone she has met but has not been tested with small children.
Pennie rides well in the car. Initially she would have to be picked up and into the car, but now she will willingly hop in on her own.
Pennie can get bored so frequent walks and mental stimulation toys are a must or else she might go for your shoes or Amazon packages when you aren’t home. Even though she is a medium-energy dog, she is perfectly fine hanging with you on the couch too. She loves chicken and treats!
Pennie can be easily startled by loud or sudden noises, such as a trash can slamming or a large work truck. Even dropping your phone near her will cause her to scurry so it’s important to be aware of that on walks and in the home. Interestingly, thunderstorms don’t bother her at all. Pennie is also heartworm positive at this time, and is on the slow kill protocol, which we can explain that process to any interested applicant. She can enjoy regular activities. Heart worm disease is contracted from an infected mosquito and can not be transmitted to another dog.
