Karlita – Gentle, Loyal, and Thoughtful

Karlita is a 2-year-old German Shepherd Dog mix weighing 65 pounds. She is a gentle, people-oriented girl who is slowly settling in and showing her sweet personality.

Loyal and affectionate: Karlita likes to stay close to her person, often following them around and gently leaning in for pets. Thoughtful leash manners: She walks nicely on leash with very mild pulling, though she may occasionally hesitate as she takes in her surroundings. Discovering her playful side: Karlita sometimes softly whines and scans her surroundings, possibly missing her previous home. She is beginning to show interest in toys, pouncing on them playfully, as she becomes more comfortable, Easygoing and redirectable: Karlita takes treats gently through she isn’t particularly interested in them. She sometimes barks at dogs nearby but can be easily redirected with a squeaky toy.

Karlita would thrive with a patient family who can give her time to decompress. She would do best with an appropriately matched dog or as a solo dog with doggie friends.

She's been waiting 21 days for someone to come get her.

[YELLOW]Recent owner surrender due to financial reasons. Was surrendered with a senior female shepherd, owner claims is the mother of this dog. Owner selected that this dog is shy, and gentle. Used to living with adults. With children, the owner selected this dog ignores, is gentle, or avoids. Owner recommends this dog live with adults or elderly. Around other dogs, the owner selected "growls" and "barks". Owner selected that this dog barks at strangers when they walk towards you or pass your home.Handling evaluation, using crew volunteer notes."Calm reserved kennel presentation. Accepts leash being draped over head but hesitant to exit her kennel until ward door is open to show her the way out. Walks cautiously/gently exiting building, looking around nervously. Pulls to the end of the leash while sniffing and exploring outside, leading to fences to look off into distance, possibly owner searching. Does not eliminate at all, clean kennel inside. Begins approaching handler while walking around opting for immediate proximity. Leans into handler's legs when standing still, leaning in while observing surroundings. Orient towards handler when kneeling to her level and is soft and accepting of pets and affection. No interest in treat offerings at all outside, worried and environmentally, unsure. Skitters back through gauntlet and pulls mildly back through building. Follows handler back in kennel and quickly turns to come back out. Presses into handler while accepting pets during leash removal. Shows motivation to come back out while closing door."Yellow.[2026-08-18 17:48:00.000]
