❤️ Personality & Breed Information
Canelo is a friendly and social four-year-old Terrier mix who enjoys being around people and connecting with his human companions. At about 37 pounds, he's a great medium size and is past the puppy stage while still having plenty of life and personality.
Canelo is social with people and would love a home where he can be included in everyday family life. Whether it's going for walks, spending time outside, relaxing at home, or simply hanging out with his favorite person, Canelo is ready to become someone's loyal companion.
When it comes to other dogs, Canelo is selective about his canine friends. He doesn't automatically enjoy the company of every dog he meets, and that's perfectly okay. Rather than expecting him to share his home with another dog, we believe Canelo will be happiest and most successful as the only dog in his forever home, where he can enjoy all the attention and companionship for himself.
As a Terrier mix, Canelo may share many of the qualities associated with Terriers, including intelligence, curiosity, determination, and a strong connection with their people. Terriers benefit from regular exercise, mental stimulation, consistent routines, and positive reinforcement training.
His ideal family will provide him with:
Plenty of human companionship and affection
A home where he can be the only dog
Daily walks and regular exercise
Mental stimulation and enrichment
Positive reinforcement training
Clear, consistent boundaries
Safe and responsible handling around unfamiliar dogs
A secure, loving indoor home
A lifelong commitment
Training, Adjustment & What to Expect
Even though Canelo is an adult, moving into a new home will be a major adjustment. His adopter should allow him time to become comfortable without rushing introductions or expecting him to understand a new routine immediately.
Please remember the 3-3-3 Rule:
3 Days to decompress and begin feeling safe
3 Weeks to understand his new household routine
3 Months to fully settle in, build trust, and feel at home
Because Canelo is dog-selective, his adopter should avoid forced interactions with unfamiliar dogs. Walks should be managed responsibly, and any necessary introductions should be slow, controlled, and positive.
Canelo doesn't need to become friends with every dog he meets. His success is being comfortable, safe, well-managed, and happy with his family.
Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care
Canelo is already neutered and vaccinated.
His future family should continue providing:
Routine veterinary wellness examinations
Recommended vaccinations and boosters
Flea, tick, heartworm, and parasite prevention
Routine dental care
Quality nutrition and healthy weight management
Daily exercise
Mental stimulation and enrichment
Continued positive-reinforcement training
Veterinary care whenever illness or injury occurs
A safe and comfortable indoor home
Keeping Canelo physically active and mentally engaged will be an important part of maintaining his overall health and happiness.

Canelo doesn't need a house full of dogs to be happy—he needs people of his own. Give him a home where he can be your one-and-only canine companion, and he'll finally have the opportunity to settle in and enjoy the love and security of a family committed to him for life. ❤️
